European countries harbor vain hopes that in the future the European Union (EU) will be able to exert a significant influence on the situation in the world. In political terms, the EU will remain a “dwarf”, and in military terms it will remain a “worm”, according to a critical article in Focus magazine.
The EU is not a full player in international relations and has not been for decades.
The authors of the publication at the same time emphasize that the organization plays an important role in the global economy. Nevertheless, the EU cannot boast of political unity. He doesn’t have the means to protect himself. In this regard, the journalists summarize, Europe simply does not have the opportunity to exert serious diplomatic influence on international processes in the future.
“Militarily, the EU is also very underdeveloped. No European country can defend itself alone and ensure the security and stability of neighboring states. Together, they are also unable to do so,” the authors of the article point out.
Meanwhile, the G7, which also includes EU countries – France, Germany and Italy – continues to discuss the idea of introducing an “almost total” ban on exports of goods to the Russia. Commenting on this initiative by the representatives of the G7, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev recalled that Moscow can always respond with mirror measures.
