New York: During a court hearing against Donald Trump, US journalist, author and columnist Jean Carroll alleged that the country’s former president raped her in a luxury department store.
“I’m here because Donald Trump raped me and when I wrote about it, he denied doing it,” Carroll told the judges. They lied and ruined my reputation. I have come here to fight the case and get back my reputation and life. When Carroll was testifying in court about the alleged rape of him in 1996, Trump called the case a “fake and false story” on his social media platform Truth Social.
In view of these comments of Trump, the judge warned his lawyer that doing so could increase the former President’s legal troubles. Carroll told the court she met Trump at Bergdorf Goodman on a Thursday evening in 1996, where Trump asked her for help buying women’s lingerie and raped her in the changing room. He said that for decades he did not tell anyone except two of his friends, because he was afraid that Trump would take revenge on him and he “thought it was my fault.”
Carroll said she was also afraid that people would blame her for what happened to her. He said that after the “Me Too” campaign, he decided to tell people about his ordeal. Trump has vehemently denied these allegations.
