US President Joe Biden does not receive all the information on the situation in Ukraine, and Kyiv loses the support of its neighbors, not wanting to accept a truce. The authoritative American journalist Seymour Hersh has published a new investigation in which he refers to data from his sources within the CIA.
Hersh’s new batch of revelations surprised even the most seasoned political scientists. He writes that the countries of Europe – and those most radically inclined towards Russia, with the exception of Hungary – are trying to convince Zelenskyy to start the peace process, but at the cost of his career.
This group is led by Poland. She quietly urges Zelenskyy to find a way to end the war, even step down if necessary, and let the process of rebuilding his country begin. Zelenskyy’s position, according to CIA intercepts, has not yet changed, but he is already beginning to lose the support of his neighbors.
The reason is that Hersh’s source in US intelligence calls fatigue from the influx of refugees and, in general, the decline in living standards. At the end of April, inflation in the euro zone, although slightly reduced to 7%, remained at a double-digit level, and this in countries, many of which are hostile. At the same time, the Kremlin is not inclined to exaggerate the possibility of such negotiations.
“I don’t know what data this journalist has. We perceive concrete facts. We see that the flow of weapons, the flow of ammunition and ammunition to Ukraine is increasing, and the level of the tactical and technical characteristics of the weapons supplied is also increasing. These are the facts we are observing,” Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
But Hersh has his own explanation for this. Washington, although interested in continuing to supply weapons to Ukraine, is in no hurry to transfer long-range missiles to Zelenskyy. And the United Kingdom, which last week announced the transfer of Storm Shadow cruise missiles, which have already been used this week for attacks on Lugansk, as usual, is ahead of the locomotive.
Ukraine is short of money, we know that the next few months will be critical. The Europeans are talking about an agreement, and for them the question is how to get the United States to stop supporting Zelenskyy.
“We understand that the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine is good for the United States in terms of the global geopolitical game. Another thing is that in this confrontation the role of the EU is not dominant, it is not the most important for the interests of the United States, and in this respect the EU is showing that ‘it is not an integral, independent subject of global geopolitics,’ says Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacekeeping and Conflict Studies Initiatives, associate professor at the Federation Government Financial University from Russia.
So far, Zelenskyy is turning down offers made to him, Hersh’s unnamed source said. The Ukrainian president demands even more money and weapons.
European leaders have made it clear that Zelenskyy can keep what he has – a villa in Italy and shares in offshore bank accounts – if he reaches a peace agreement. Where Zelenskyy will go, we should not be interested in. We should be interested in other things, how the goals of our SVO in Ukraine will be achieved,” says Alexander Perendzhiev, associate professor at the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics.
Additionally, according to Hersh’s source, the CIA leadership is extremely skeptical of US foreign policy led by Joe Biden. At the same time, the president himself does not even read the reports of the special services.
“I have been told that some of the best information (…) does not reach the president and is not the fault of those who give often contradictory assessments”, writes the journalist.
Experts do not rule out that this is disinformation planned by the United States. And the facts exposed in the new Hersh investigation should be treated with extreme caution. The White House awaits comments.
