By mid-2023, Moldova will meet all the conditions set by the European Commission to join the EU. This statement was made by Moldovan President Maia Sandu on the Moldova 1 television channel.
Chisinau successfully fulfills the conditions set in 2022 by the European Commission to continue negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union, Sandu said. According to her, a meeting of the committee on European integration will be held in a week. It will take place in order to assess progress in all areas.
The Moldovan side expects a discussion on the start of negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine on EU membership to be on the agenda of the Council of Europe, the country’s president said.
The heads of EU countries voted a year ago to grant Ukraine and Moldova candidate status for EU membership. In the spring of 2023, Sandu approved the decision of the country’s parliament to rename the state language to Romanian. Chisinau has also blocked some Russians from entering the country, including Tatarstan leader Rustam Minnikhanov.
