The Sudanese Armed Forces and the country’s Immediate Reaction Force have agreed on a humanitarian truce for a period of 7 days, Al Arabiya TV channel reports.
During the night and Saturday morning, airstrikes were carried out on the outskirts of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, reports the television channel. Fighting in the country continues for the sixth week.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support (Immediate Response) paramilitary forces has resulted in a breakdown of public order and looting, for which both sides blame each other. Stocks of food, cash and basic necessities are running out quickly. Civilians were trapped in a humanitarian crisis and became internally displaced.
Eyewitnesses reported airstrikes in southern Omdurman and northern Bahri, two towns that lie across the Nile from Khartoum and form Sudan’s “triple capital”. According to eyewitnesses, the explosions occurred near the state television and radio company in Omdurman.
Some 705 people have died and at least 5,287 have been injured, according to the World Health Organization.
The negotiations organized by the United States and Saudi Arabia in Jeddah have failed. Both sides have accused each other of violating numerous ceasefire agreements.
Previously, Il-76 military transport planes transported more than 200 people from Sudan to the Russian Federation. Among them are both Russians and citizens of the CIS countries.
