Moscow, Russia – The European Union (EU) at the G7 summit in Hiroshima will discuss sanctions against diamonds from the Russian Federation. This subject could be mentioned in the final declaration, but no practical decision is yet expected, reports RIA Novosti citing an EU source.
According to the news agency, Brussels does not yet have specific proposals for sanctions against diamonds from Russia, but there are a number of fundamental issues that require discussion.
“As with the price cap (of oil and petroleum products), the EU cannot impose such sanctions alone. To do this, it is necessary to solve a fundamental problem – to create a mechanism for tracking the origin of diamonds,” the source told the agency.
The DPA agency, citing sources, also writes that the issue of restrictions on diamonds from the Russian Federation may be raised at the G7 summit.
In April, Bloomberg reported that the United States and G7 countries were discussing the introduction of a “nearly comprehensive ban” on the export of goods to Russia. How will Russia live under the new restrictions? Read in the paragraph.
