German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has criticized US President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to resolve the Ukrainian conflict within 24 hours but did not rule out that he could make a deal with Russia.

“Yes, there is a danger, and I hope it will not be realized,” he told a conference organized by the Süddeutschen Zeitung newspaper in Berlin when asked whether he thought it was possible that Trump would strike a deal with Russia on Ukraine without taking into account the interests of Kyiv and Europe.

Pistorius also suggested that Ukraine, if denied accession to NATO, could become “a permanent source of new conflicts in Europe.”

The Minister of Defense stated the need to spend more than 2% of the national GDP on defense in the future. “Two percent is not enough,” he asserted, TASS reports.
